Now that's a tough one. D60 is quite old now and although the D200 is a good camera perhaps a D300 would be the better buy if you go that way. It has to be said that better glass is usually the way to go, but in your case I am not so sure.

We have a D40 (as well as a D80/90) and I'm still turning out some credible results.
I've not got an 18-200 VR, but I would only really ever entertain one as a walk about lens.
The question is, what are you shooting?

i have a 35mm f/1.8 and a nifty which i love , mostly shooting a bit of glamour and potraiture , but would like to try other fields , landscapes etc , i love the d60 but would prefer something with a little better noise handling and more features

The D200 will give you more features, better build etc. than the D60 but noise handling will be similar as the D200 has the same sensor as the D60. If you want better noise handling, a D90 or D300 would be the way to go IMO.
The Nikon 18-200VR will also not be much of an upgrade from your 18-105VR other than extra reach. I would keep the 18-105 and get a Nikon 70-300VR, cheaper and more reach.

i currently have the funding to either upgrade my body from a d60 to a d200 or my glass from the 18-105mm vr to the 18-200mm vr , however im wondering in the long run which will be the best decision , any thoughts ?
Go for the D200...it will also let you use 1000s of second hand lenses that you cannot use in the D60
thats what i thought , my budget is in the region of £400-600 if i sell my d60 , so a D300 is a possibility

The D90 kit comes with the 18-105VR as well, so you might as well sell the D60 body only, keep your 18-105VR and buy D90 body only.

I assume you're referring to the lack of inbuilt focus motor in the D60?
The vast majority of Nikkor lenses should work using manual focus.......

yes they should ..but the older manual lenses wont meter and newer AF prime lenses cost a Bomb
