ok im selling my canon 24-70 2.8 L and looking to buy another lens, something around a similer range, and i've narrowed it down to a tamron 28-75 2.8.

What are your thoughts on this lens and does anyone have hands on experience with it, also any other lens i shoud consider, just to make things clear will be using on a 5d m2 so needs to be EF fitment.

Hi,

I have just got the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 Di for my D300. I am very impressed with it. Slightly slow at AF in low light but very acceptable IQ for my uses.

Here is one I got recently of my daughter, hand held f3.5 1/2000.

It seems sharp at 2.8 but slightly sharper when stopped down a little.

There is a flickr group for the Tamron, have a search in the images for your camera model to see what others are doing.

Andy, how much are you selling it for just out of interest, thinking of upgrading from the 24-105 f4

hi rupert, unfortunatly i wont be selling on here as i'm banned from the classifieds (dont ask lol) but i dont wana have any more infractions so if you would like a price for my lens i would prefer if you asked the mods if you could contact me about this. I'm also interested in the 24-105 L

I don't get my savings out of investment for another month or so, big shopping spree when that happens lol,

The 24-105 is great it's just a shame about the low light capabilities.

The Tamron is a great lens, I had one for years. It however isn't without its issues. Its reasonable poor at focusing in low light and its slower and noisier focusing than the Canon. On personal tests with a mates canon 24-70 and 24 - 105 there was no clear difference in image quality throughout the zoom and Fstop range (on a crop camera) so if you can put up with its quirks you'll save heaps.

It's an older lens now and I've been kinda hoping they would update it and include VC but nothing so far.
 
I had a Tammy 28-75 2.8 on my 5D classic for quite a while. It was great, the images were sharp and I was happy with it.
However, the zoom was very slow and quite gritty/stiff to adjust, not smooth at all. It would take quite a lot of force to turrn the zoom and then suddenly it would shoot from 28mm to 50mm, and fine tuning it to say 38mm (example) was difficult.

But you cant argue about the quality of the image it produced at the end of the day..
