What to get/upgrade next?

Ok, I have about £250 burning a hole in my pocket, a rare thing! I’d like to invest it in some kit, but I’m torn over what to get/upgrade.

I shoot literally everything and anything, people, cars, pets, indoor nighttime parties, city walkabout shots, Rugby any excuse to use the camera basically.

I have….

Canon 40D
Canon 50mm 1.8 (I love this lens, use it for any portrait stuff or indoors when I can)
Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4.5 (my general walkabout lens, seems decent enough)
Sigma 70-300mm (the cheap zoom, not too happy with it really but don’t use it much – maybe because I don’t like it?)
430EX flash (seems to do me fine)

I’m unsure about what to get, part of me would like to have a 10-20mm Sigma for the extra angles I’d get, but part of me says get a better zoom lens (70-200mm 2.8 Sigma etc).

I could sell any lens to add more funds for its replacement.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm anyone want to comment, I’m probably talking for talking sake here but thought I’d ask what people think would be a good area to spend the money, as I say the tricky bit is that I shoot anything and everything.
 
A better long zoom seems to be the next step, but doubt that selling the current 70-300 plus £250 would be sufficient, why not keep the money and keep saving.
 
I have quite a similar Nikon equivalent setup. About to add a wide angle to complete the entire range.

I'm actually planning to sell off my midrange zoom as well since I hardly use it, leaving me with...

1) Wide angle 12-24mm
2) Mid focal length 35mm f1.8
3) telephoto 55-200mm

Oh if you don't already have a tripod yet, that would be a good piece of equipment to invest on.
 
I tripod is a must in my opinion and they are priced well within your budget. That would also allow for a remote control wired or wireless to add to your gear

If you don't use your tele much, then I would suggest an ultrawide. I have a Sigma 10-20mm and it is an excellent lens, if you look around you could probably pick one up for £250 second hand. If you don't like it, you most likely would be able to sell it on for little loss.
 
Over time you'll accumulate a lot of kit...but looking at what you shoot, especially indoors and/or other small spaces, I think the 10-20 would be a real winner for you. When you get down to 10-12 mm you can really be in tight spaces and still get great shots, and the lens then doubles nicely for cityscapes and landscapes. Nothing you have can give you what the 10-20 will.

But...if you have a burning desire to replace your longer end, then the lens you're looking at will be sweet.
 
Ahh its a tough call! Good point about the resale on the wide angle though, they do seem to sell fast and for a set price as such.

I have 2 tripods, neither are amazing but to be honest I very rarely use them as I don't do much night/long exposure stuff and I find I can usually get a quick enough shutter speed when out and about not to need it, say at 200 ISO etc. I also don't really want to lug it around.
 
You missed out on a 70 200 F/4L sold on here for £295 that would have been a cracker

What about a couple of cheaper flashes, stands, umbrellas and radio triggers. Gives you something else to learn. Thinking of adding similar kit to my collection...amongst other stuff :lol:

Ah I have some studio lights, a cheap kit, but I have access to it if I need via work - also I tend not to use that stuff, maybe I should but its alot to lug around for outside work and I find indoor studio shots very boring.

How does it compare to the Sigma 70-200 2.8? I hired the Sigma once and found it pretty decent, maybe a bit soft at 200mm but was nice and fast and the AF was good.
