Hi guys,

Myself and a few friends will be going to the peak district in October for 2 days. Does anyone have any tips on what we should take with us? I currently have a 70D with a 50mm 1.8, canon 10-18 & the 75-250 canon. I will be taking my tripod as well as back up cards and batteries. Is there anything else i should take? Non photography items also.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Waterproofs and boots, a rucksack (with a waterproof liner, if it doesn't have a rain cover) big enough to hold the photo gear, clothing and food, but you probably know that already.

Have a look at TPE ( http://photoephemeris.com/ ) to check out sunset and sunrise locations. The OS map of the area. If you want paper OS maps have a look at ( https://dash4it.co.uk/ ) for a good price.

As it's the wide open space and you are using a tripod, if it's windy and you are able, I have one of these....

Neewer® Black Heavy Duty Photographic Studio Video SandBag for Gitzo, Manfrotto, Didea and Benro Series Stands and Other Universal Light Stands, Boom Stand and Tripod https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ZI30CGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BOc8xbDCDD73G

If there are loose rocks and/or stones then you can load the bag with them. If your vehicle is close by, then you can bring your own ballast. I usethe smaller very well bagged 'Childrens play sand' which is cleaned of nasties and lives quietly in the garage lf my motorhome until needed. The bag was a gift and others are available (usually for lightstands).

Steve

PS

The sand lives in the sealed bag in comes in - bit pricey otherwise [emoji5]

PPS

Cheese and Pickle sarnies on wholegrain bread!

Whiniest Pass, Ladybower and the other reservoirs at the top of the peaks

That bridge in the (superb) picture is the one over Ladybower. If you go north from there, as you cross the bridge the phone signal cuts out, so you won't be able to use google maps as you go up by the side of Derwent and Howden Reservoirs. I use an app called UK maps which is based more on gps. You just need to download the map area before you go, when you've got a good internet connection.

Surely you can use off line maps? You might not get route planning but offline maps gives you an option without a huge satnav programme eating up storage
