What tripod and head for macro work?

I have just brought a macro lens and I am now looking into getting a tripod and head for it but I am unsure what to go for.
Could anyone recommend a tripod and head which is not too expensive?

When you say not too expensive, what is your combined budget for the tripod and head?

Budget needed really

I use a Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro and Manfrotto 496RC2 Compact QR Ball Head just under £200 for both, the tripod is a good all rounder theres a cheaper version the 190, and there may be deals with both pod and head

I'm not sure as I don't use a tripod for my Macro shots but perhaps take a look at the Redsnapper stuff and maybe see if anything is worthwhile there.

But I'm happy to defer to people like Dave who have got far more experience in the matter

A ball head with a Manfrotto macro rail 454 will be the business for macro work

The 055XProB is quite a sturdy tripod, I really like it.

A bit expensive for sure, but no doubt the most accurate to position.

Absolutley right. I have the 405 geared head and its the dogs for accurate positioning, but quite pricey
