Going to treat myself to a wimberley type head for my 500mm. Just wondering what tripods others are using to support similar kit. Thanks in advance.

I've just got a Benro C4770 for less than half what Gitzo would have cost me, for approx the same quality........

Gitzo systematic range (with no centre column) so that you can get low down.

Just make sure you get one that is the right height for your build, or at least one that is tall enough, there are quite a few options available (leg sections, closed length etc.)

Well, you've spent a fair wad on a 500mm, so I would repectfully suggest that you try and buy the best quality that you can afford.
I chose the Gitzo GT5542LS and Wimberly 2 head. I worked on the theory that buy once and be done with it.
I'm extremely happy with the set up and am confident that it will last a very long time. I also know that it will cope with further lenses that I may buy. ;)
I'm sure that the other makes are good, but it's a one off payment and the pain soon goes, once you've used the set up.
Only you can decide. :D

Kev.

Well I took the "buy once and be done with it" advice. Got A Gitzo GT5532LS Systematic. Can see why they are expensive. Impressive bit of kit and under 3kg. Thanks for the advice.
