Yes
ive been looking around and my god it seems a minefield!
but i think i like the manfrotto 190XPROB.

i would like to use it for maily portrait/landscape... but would also like to try macro.

anybody had any dealings with this tripod or know of a good price?

I have just bought one of these. It is pretty heavy to carry about for landscapes and wildlife, but very stable with my sigma 50-500 lens, so I put up with the weight.

Got it in conjunction with a manfrotto head 488RC2, which is a kind of compromise between a ball head and a pan and tilt.

Bought the two in an independent shop in York, so not much good if you're in Cornwall.

It's a good choice

Don't discount the Redsnapper, great value for money but hasn't got the centre column party trick... other than that it's a better value option  Also the Redsnapper is now available in CF

i was going to go for cf, but with a high centre of gravity i dont think cf is any good- unless you were to weigh it down somehow which then seems pretty pointless in having cf..lol

I have the 190 XProb, and am really happy with it. I bought it for its weight and size, and I have never noticed its weight when wandering around the hills of snowdonia strapped to my bag, or wandering around towns with it slung over my shoulder. It also fits into my suitcase nicely for when I go away.

I didn't know about rednsapper when I bought mine, but they look good too, and seem to be highly recommended on here.
