Hi all,

Could anybody give me some advise on a tripod with a buget of around £50, to hold a Sony A200 with my biggest lens being 300mm or would I be better off until funds are better?

Personally i'd hang on till funds improve then look at redsnapper as claymore said. For the money they are fantastic.
 
as said...save and get one that will last you years.my first tripod was a jessops one which cost around £45,but quite honestly it wasn't up to the job,very restrictive and weak.got myself a manfrotto 190XPROB with an 804RC2 head for around £135...fantastic bit of kit IMHO.

the redsnapper come very well regarded by members on here,which are a little cheaper,but i have no experience of them personally.
 
I just received (yesterday) my Redsnapper tripod and head.

After reading many good reviews on here, I took the plunge and orderd via the website. I ordered the 4 section tripod and this head. It came in around £65 including delivery and the discounts refunded from Joe for being a TP member.

I really would recommend it. All the praise on here is well deserved, it really is a sturdy piece of kit that feels like it will last a long time.....and as said above, you get a great carry bag with it.

It you can stretch/save that little bit above your budget, I really think its worth it.

Definitely get the Redsnapper, I just went for the ball head and slightly sturdier 3 section legs. £90 for both.

I used a Sunpak/Quantaray (depding on where you buy it) - PlatinumPlus 72" Tripod/Monopod for the lognest time...that seems to be in your price range. It's has a wide base and quite sturdy--ideal for long zooms like 300mm. I used it quote a bit with my 300mm. It's a beast though, so if you are going to do some tracking, I'd get something lighter.
