Yes
Its my 40th this year and hubby is going to give me £300 towards a lens, and i can probably add another £100, i currently have a 40D , 18 - 55 kit lens that came with my 400d, 75 - 300 F4 - 5.6, Sigma 18 - 200 and a nifty fifty, i enjoy taking action shots of the woofas, and am hoping that when DOH starts gigging the new band to take my camera along there, i have thought about either the canon 100mm Macro if i can get one second hand or the Sigma 105, whatever i want something that will perform in low light, or should i invest in a 70 - 200 F4 L

It all depends what you want from a lens really and what you will be mainly using it for. For instance if you want something mainly for the gig side of things and you are able to get fairly close to the action then I would recommend something like the Tamron SP 17-50mm non VC. Its constant F2.8 aperture is great in low light and the lens itself gives lovely sharp images.

If you are after something at the zoom end though I would deffo say the Canon 70-200mm F4 L as you mentioned. Although not one I have myself (on the lookout for one at the moment though) I have heard its a cracking lens for the cash and could be good for a variety of photography. Maybe not as good for the low light stuff, although im sure others with experience of the lens on here could advise better on that one.

If you do find yourself torn between a few lenses why not try hiring one or two out for a weekend and seeing how you get on with them. Somewhere like lensesforhire or lenspimp are reasonable enough.

Hope this helps

I would use this opportunity to rationalise your outfit with some quality lenses.

Replace your kit 18-55 with the much improved IS version. Look to upgrade to 15-85 or 17-55 as and when.
Sell the 75-300 and the 18-200.
Treat yourself to the 70-200L :) Or 70-300 IS is also good.
Keep nifty-50 - perfect for gigs.

If you fancy macro, get extension tubes for the 70-200L, or a Raynox DCR-250 macro adapter (only £40). Have you got a decent flash gun? You should!

After that, the weak link in the chain will probably be the camera. Christmas? :D

I would suggest selling all of your lenses apart from the nifty fifty and get

Tamron 17-50 2.8 non-VC
Canon 70-200 f4 non IS

If you have any spare caddy left over use this to buy a flash if you haven't already got one.
