I have had a sigma 150-500 for about six months and have been very pleased with it and it has been quite sharp, last weekend it bit the dust (auto focus packed up and made a lot of horrible internal noise ) I found out it should have been recalled and it was replaced...When I tried the replacement I wasn't happy not as sharp as my old one..then I tried it again and thought oh well it will do, but having taken it for an outing for a third time it's not as good as my first one...
I have spoken to the guy in the shop, and he said I could keep trying the 150-500s untill I find one I like or he will repair my original one....................Or the third option will give me back a full refund for it against a sigma 50-500 OS, which is what I am kind of leaning towards as I have heard good reports on them..

What would you do ? any advice would be greatfully received. Thanks Steve.
 
Is it the focus is slightly off, or is it that itis soft all over the image. I don't know whether Nikons have the focus Microadjust feature of some Canons.
 
Steve, you do need to rule out focus problems. My first copy suffered enough for me to return it but the next one was much better, & sharper wide open too, although sharpness take a big jump @ f7.1.

I've read about the Bigma being better, but have yet to see results that convince me of that. The fact that it's a 10x zoom & the extra £££ put me off, I'd rather spend on a prime & convertors.
 
Thank both for your replies, my original lens was really quite sharp & I had hoped the replacement was going to be the same, but I have tried 2 replacement lenses the first one was just not as sharp asy old one the second one was not onlynot as sharp but I had to under expose a lot of the shots or they would all come out overexposed. I think the thingt is that I have probably taken Getting towards 10,000 trouble free shots with my original lens, and then to have two lenses that wern't as good as the first and then being offered the upgrade it has made me think...L
 
sometimes you can get a lens that you just love and no replacement or upgrade will match up to the bond you ahve wiht the lens your happy with... Just get your orginal lens fixed and be happy.. thats what I would do :)
