What Yongnuo Flash?

I've done a search and couldn't really find the answer so, what Yongnuo flash is best for a beginner with a Nikon D3100? I'm looking at the YN-560 and the YN-560 II as they're well in my price range. Will either of these be ok? I keep reading about TT-L and that some aren't TT-L.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The 560's are not TTL. For your first flash I'd recommend a TTL one. The 565 is TTL but is a bit more.

You might want to also look for maybe a used Jessops 360afd which is TTL and I think is a great first flash. The only downside is it can be a bit show to recharge. But I've seen them go on Ebay for around £30.
 
Apologies for hijacking the thread with a probably stupid question. what is ttl?

I'm trying to research flash too but have no clue :bonk:
 
Yup. Basically TTL means the camera can figure out what power flash to be using rather than with non-TTL which means you having to constantly guess what power is best.

It's not perfect of course but it's better to have it than not IMO. Manual flashes are most popular for studio use where lighting is generally controlled so there's not as much need to be changing power settings all the time.
 
As a general rule if the lighting is controlled and the subject is not moving then use manual flash, if it's not it's easier with TTL.
