Yes
Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di

or

Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Macro

or are there any other similarly priced alternatives??

cheers dudes

The sigma 28-300 is really pretty awful and I don't think that the tamron is any better.

The problems are that it's a huge zoom range that would present serious problems in any lens, even with a hefty budget to blow on the glass.

If it's at all possible, spread this over two lenses and the gains will be massive.

cheers daz.

found another...

Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 Aspherical Hyperzoom IF

I hate to sound like a right grump but it will be horrible.

It's that massive range, it's just full of engineering problems and glass design issues that are almost impossible to work around.

The solution at sigma and tamron would seem to be "since we can't really make a good 10x zoom lens, lets just make a cheap and nasty one and make no bones about it".

Yes it's very versatile and it's aimed purely at people that just want convenience and aren't wanting more than the odd 5x7 pic from boots.

Really, it's going to be just horrible. Did I mention that? ;)

lol...i think i get your drift now.

im just scared about dust issues and want to limit the switching of lenses.
guess i just need to be careful when i do so!!

Pah, dust happens. I just open my cameras up every once in a while and scrape it all off with a spatula. Don't fret about it. ;):D
