Whats going on with Canon?!!!

I think there are a lot of Canon users who'd consider jumping ship if they didn't have such an investment in glass already. But it's always swings and roundabouts and I'm sure that whilst Nikon have the better bodies at the moment it'll come back the other way soon enough.
I would have considerd a jump to the D3 but its full frame and wont suit my needs. It would meen getting a 400f2.8 where my 3002.8 is just right on a 1.3 crop.

No, but the point being that nowadays ISO is being pushed as the megapixels of "people in the know". The problem is that just because manufacturers are making higher ISO cameras doesn't actually mean those higher ISOs are any good (just like MP), the box says ISO12400 so that must be good right?

Ah, I thought most of the bumph I've read is about improving performance at high ISOs instead of just raising the ISO rating itself.

Do you think? The odd slightly better feature on a different camera doesn't worry me. I'd rather learn to use what I've go properly. Sure theres talk about high iso, but I've just invested about £100 in lighting stands, brollys and wireless triggers for my flashguns. Just a different way of doing things

For me the 40d/50d is perfect for what I do. This time of year the weatherproofing is getting a good testing :D

:agree: I soooooooo can't be arsed with the whole tedious Canon vs Nikon war. In comparison with a lot of the truly intelligent and informed comment in these pages, that debate is puerile beyond beleif. If I really want a bit of banter like that I may as well funk off to AVforums and bang on about how great my mobile phone is!

Sorry, should have qualified that a bit with "Canon users who feel constrained by their current camera and who are looking to upgrade". I agree with you completely, my 20D is more than sufficient for me and probably will be until it breaks :)

Nifkin, yup I use the built in flash. I think it's much more useful than some (not necessarily you) make out and works fine many uses including fill light. I've never owned an SLR without one and I find it strange that now only one full frame camera has one.

I think that using a huge ambiance and scene destroying attention grabbing add on flash would be my idea of hell.

The Fuji HS10 will start to hit them soon...
Only 10mp,

but

24-720mm - with a fixed lens
10 fps at full resolution (but can only take 7 of them !)
1080 HD Video
1000 FPS (yes 1000 FPS -at 2mp) slo mo video function - how much fun could that be?

and all for £420 ish.

And it looks like a dslr!!

I've had that before with my friend commenting on how her phone had more megapickles than my D90. Soon shut her up when she tried to take a picture of Loch Lomond at night and got nothing but a black screen while I got a nicely exposed image.

Yeah, know what you mean Craig. We went camping a year or so back at a place where the salmon run the falls. There were 12 of us altogether. One of the guys is like "Inspector Gadget" and everything he buys is the latest and best,if you get my drift.......:D......Anyway, about 6 of us were at the falls watching the salmon leaping,I was the only one that got an image, the P&S`s just couldn`t cut it in that circumstance, much to my mates annoyance. I tried to explaining the 15 MP does not maketh the camera,he sold it shortly after. Most odd as it was a cracking little camera, but he expected it to do far too much.
