What's my filter size - Zeiss 50mm 1.4

No
I've just acquired myself a mint Zeiss 1.4 50mm JENA DDR (the one with 3 sets of grooves on the focus ring, not sure if that is v1 or v2) and I was wondering if anybody knew or knew where to locate the filter size?

It isn't marked on the lens and for the life of me, I can't find it on the internet.

Thanks.
Ed

Most CZ Jena 50mm lens have a 49mm filter thread.

This might sound stupid, but why don't you just measure it? Filters generally only come in discrete sizes (eg there aren't any between 67mm and 72mm, or between 72mm and 77mm) so you don't have to be 100% accurate.

Did try that but the tape measure I have to hand isn't really that great and didn't hug it very tightly at all. Also at this end of the filter scale you have 49, 52, 55, all of which are pretty close to each other.

49mm looks like it could be right, it's certainly a tiny lens. If anybody else has any info though, would be welcome.

It's the diameter, no hugging involved.

It will either be 49, 52, 55 or 58mm. My guess is 52 for a 50 1.4 Jena.

That makes more sense. Tape measure reads 54mm, but it's a bit bent so maybe 52mm. Still, it's not really accurate enough for me to make a proper judgement so if anybody knows conclusively, it'd be good to know.

To be absolutely sure, visit your friendly local camera shop with your lens. Ask them for a #&*&$$ type filter to fit it. They may even have a box of odds'n'sods that they'll let you rummage through which could save you a few quid. Just one thing; if they're kind enough to find out the filter size for you (or let you use their stock to find it out yourself), PLEASE thank them by spending your money with them, not by legging it home and searching the web for the cheapest you can get it for there. OK, the web can save you some cash but next time you need to find something out, where will you go if the local shop's gone bust because all their stock is shop soiled and nobody's buying anything?

Ed, it's 52. It can't be anything else. No such thing as 51 or 53. Or 50 or 54 for that matter.

Hello,
Just to say again, all my Jena's take 49mm, to be sure take the lens to a shop and ask to try.

Can't easily take it to a shop but I will in the new week. Seller has said it'll be either 52 or 55mm. Can't believe it's this hard to get something conclusive on it though.

Ed, really it's not hard. I guessed at 52mm in post #9 for the f/1.4 version of that lens. You're subsequent measurement was so close to that it cannot be anything else.
