Yes
055xprob with 804rc2 or 190xprob with 804rc2 For all round use.

Thanks:D

Both identical except for ruggedness of build and load capacity.

Heavy use the 055, light use the 190

Sorry, it's not quite as simple as chosing between the 055 and 190.
compact camera? DSLR? Medium format? Large format? Type of head? and so on...

I'm not trying to be a prat here :) And the 055 and 190 are good, but the "best" really does depend on a lot of other factors.

My 055CB must be at least fifteen years old, so would opt for that judging by mine

They are both exactly the same in built quality and design, apart from the 055 being bigger, so they'll both be as hard wearing and solid as each other.

The 055 is suited more to taller people and where you need stability at high heights. The 190 is lighter and smaller, so easier to carry, but gives less stability at higher heights (since to get it to most grown men's eye level, you would have to raise the centre column).
I do macro, so the 190 is more suitable to me since I hardly ever have to even extend the third leg section for my low level stuff, but for landscapes the 055 might be better suited, and also if you're going to want to use it at eye level without the centre column.

055xprob with 804rc2 or 190xprob with 804rc2 For all round use.

Thanks:D

Just a thought but - have you thought about a Giottos MTL9351B

Does virtually the same as a Manfrotto & is cheaper as well... The centre columm can be angle'd & reversed. It also gets down low as well like the manfrotto... You could always get a head for it or have one that comes in the kit form...

I've just recently bought a 055XPROB.

I had already picked up a bargain priced 804 head off of ebay, and had the same dilemma as you. Whether to go for the lighter, perhaps more practical to carry around 190 or go for the slightly heavier and bigger 055.

if you use the Manfrotto configurator it shows the 804 is better balanced with the 190. I think this is purely because the 055 can handle a heavier head.

After reading up I decided to go for the 055 as it's sturdier, and it's not that much bigger or heavier in the scheme of things. Plus the last thing you want is to be somewhere, where your tripod isn't quite big enough.

I have a 1d mk2 and a 5d 70-200 f2.8 is the heavy'st. I like motorsport and wild life i also want to do some night stuff.

cheers and thanks for the input:D

Don't want to disuade you if you're already set on the Manfrottos, but if not, consider the Red Snapper 283 :). Many on here will happily vouch for it - half the price, and some prefer it over the 055 and 190.
