whats the best star picture possible with just a 18-105 lens

Sorry if posted in the wrong place as im not posting a picture,
I like looking at other peoples pictures of the stars etc but was wondering what would be the best possible picture to expect from just my kit Nikon 18-105mm lens on a d7100. I also have a 35mm and a 70-300 but suspect the 70-300 would be no good for astro photography .
any pics,advice or settings help would be great .....thanks

Not sure what sort of star images you're after but you'll be able to do this without any trouble.

Deliberately taken to include a few planes. Typically, I managed to get just the one! Your interpretation is rather apt, given that it was taken in Greece in 2007.
