can anyone explain the difference between the cannon eos 1d lll and the eos 1ds lll please
 
thats another spanner in the works ive been thinking of getting either a 7d or 5d ll but now ive seen a few second hand 1d lll and 1ds lll :thinking: o dear my head hurts
 
There's a big difference in price there isn't there? I know plenty of full time pros shooting with 5D mkIIs, all people photographers though.

What do you shoot?
 
I am just a keen amateur I will take a shot of anything that catches my eye I enjoy the great out doors so generally most of my photos are taken while out walking birds landscapes nothing planned but I feel like I am getting to the planning stage
 
You might struggle with the AF on a 5D mkII for birds (people argue about the AF on 5Ds day in day out, good, bad, or ugly). The 7D is an awesome allrounder with fantastic image quality and great AF, the cropped sensor will aid with reach for your longer lenses, alot of what you pay for in a 1d/1ds is the build quality. You won't go wrong with a 7D for your needs, in my opinion anyway :)
 
I was in your boat only a few weeks ago, I went down the 1Dmiii route, I have to say i was a little worried about taking on the 1D as i was going from a 550d but, well, I am now very glad i did, I cant put the thing down lol

7d and 5d2 are two completely different animals!

This is certainly one where you need to be clear what you want to use it for!
 
How much are you planning on spending? the latest 1D/1Ds models will still set you back £2500+ even used.

Not having owned anything at this level the model that seems like it might be worth you considering is the 1Ds mk2. If you wanted a really tough body with a portrait grip and pro level autofocus but werent concerned with high FPS or the very highest resolution it seems like a good fit and can be bought comparatively cheaply used at around £1300.

You should easily get a mkii for under a grand now. The biggest issue with it is the rubbish screen and two button controls.
