looking to get a new lens
on a tight budget and found these 2

could some tell me what the difference between them is?

i see one has apo but i have no idea what that means

im off to devon for a week soon and wanted a lens with abit of zoom
i know it wont be amazing for the money but at the mo its all i can spend
 
APO= Apochromatic
Apochromatic lenses are telephoto and telezoom type lenses which use special optical designs and optical materials (SLD or ELD glass) to improve their performance. The result is images which have greater contrast, sharpness and color definition than a comparable non-APO type lens

though tbh from tests and reports dont know how much difference there really is . i have the APO DG and have the DG and couldnt really see any difference other than to the wallet

as i said all im allowed to order is either one of the 2 as they are in price range just trying to decide wether to spend the extra.
i know its a budget lens but are they ok for a beginner or should i just save for longer?
 
honestly depends on how long you want to save and how much you want to spend.. im a canon user but in theory with nikon its probably the same scenario in that the price takes a huge jump up for the next level of lens.
for canon for instance you have the sigma 70-300 APO DG or the canon 70-300 USM.. both second hand around say the £80 mark. then after that your jumping to canon 70-300 IS USM which sees a price hike of upto around £250-300... and then after that your in L glass territory ( and dropping down a 100 ml to something like the 70-200L which second hand can see you in for around £350-400.
there doesnt seem to be what i would say is an intermediate as such around the £150 price mark..
i used to have the 70-200 L and image quality was out of this world in comparison to the 70-300 Sigma.. just wish there was soemthing that slotted between the two but as yet i cant find anything ( the Tamron is worse than the sigma and canon lenses for the 70-300 and Tokina which do great optics dont seem to have anything ive found in that range )

to be honest im off to devon for a week in 2 weeks time so couldnt save enough for a decent lens in that time.
once i get back from devon i will be able to save more and should have around £500ish in a couple months.
i was just hoping the sigma will whilst im away as i only have a 50mm 1.8 and 18-70 stock lens, and thought i may not have enough zoom.

but i guess its either that for now or nothing so maybe worth just ordering it, i could always give it to my daughter once i upgrade anyhow

Not sure where you're staying in Devon but if you'll be anywhere near Torbay, it would be worth visiting Mifsuds in Brixham to see their second hand stock. You can see what they've got available on their website but to examine it you'll need to visit the shop.

Thanks I will hopefully be able to go and take a look.
I'm staying in shaldon which I belive isn't all that far from torbay.

Is there any places you recommend I can take my children.
My daughter wants to see a old fashioned fishing village?
 
if you only go one place.. it has to be Clovelly.
though thats north devon so may be a bit far.
Sidmouth is very nice but maybe not what your looking for
Hope Cove is further down south but probably within reasonable distance for a day trip out, and Saclombe up the road from there is worth a visit too.

Closer to your base camp is the Village of Beer, just the other side of sidmouth .

info on Beer..( They call it Devon's best kept secret but it's no secret that Beer is a delightful fishing village with its own secluded pebble beach, protected by imposing cliffs. The village has resisted the advances of modernisation and retained its character, with a beautiful church and some fine buildings. Fishing still takes place here and Beer is famous for its crab. Why not rent of the small boats out and land some fresh mackerel?)
