Whats the most DSLR like Bridge camera right now?

Due to some huge bills thanks to Renault and the ex-wife, i may have to ditch the Mk3 and lenses.:thumbsdown:

Whats the closest bridge to a dslr, im into Bird Photography and want one that will be good to take pics of the kids when they are at mine.

I appreciate anything is going to be a shortfall compared to the Mk3 but needs must and all that!
 
Micro 4/3?

You can use pretty much any lens on them once you've got an adapter so once you have the body and adapter (not cheap I know) you could pick up some used lens bargains and the x2 crop might help with some photography.

Ouch, I'm really sorry to hear that....

Realistically though, no bridge cameras are DSLR like? They only look (sort of) like DSLRs as they are made to make people think they are a DSLR. You're just getting a compact with slightly more settings and a glorified lens.
 
Fuji S200exr is about as good as they get the HS10 gets good reviews but hasa smaller sensor, so the IQ from the S200 will be better and its less than £300
 
Isn't the Panasonic G1 a good deal at the mo?

Very SLR like.
 
Thanks for the replies, i like the idea of the G1 and the price is pretty good too. Really really dont want to get rid of the Mk3 as i love its performance and build.

Any other suggestions on alternatives?

but anyhow...i've no idea tbh but i've always quite liked the fuji series of bridge cameras if that helps?
 
G1 ticks all the boxes, I reckon :D

I would say it was more of an DSLR than some of the entry level full size DSLRs at the moment, particularly the IQ.
 
I have just got the Panasonic FZ38 not done a lot with it but it may suit you for a while Hope everything turns out OK for you in the future good luck mate:thumbs:

Yup. DSLR's are what you're used to so if you have to sell the current much loved gear why not get a cheapo DSLR and either a kit lens or a "standard" - ish lens and get back to the basics of composition and fun.

I love my 20D and you can get them pretty cheap these days, stick a kit lens on it or a cheapo prime anywhere between 20 and 50mm and I'd be happy, or just buy an entry level Sony or Nikon DSLR, basically whatever kit is cheapest on the day. The price difference between a used or entry level DSLR and a bridge or G1 might not be that significant when balanced against the familiarity and handling advantages. You'll get the handling you're used to, respectable build and image quality and allow you to free up some cash until finances improve.

Bird photography might be a problem...but a cheapo long lens might be an option.

What budget are you looking at?, what are you getting rid of lens wise.... The 1D MKIII 2nd hand prices are £1200 - 1500..... Could you get away with buying a 2nd hand body like a 30D / 40D or 500D and maybe keep 1 of your lenses, a bridge camera just wouldn't cut the mustard, and buying the G1 wouldn't work either, because you would have to buy new lenses to replace the 1's you have just got rid of.

The thing is though that if you have a MFT and the right adapter you can pick up some real bargain lenses. In the GF1 thread there are some great pictures taken with old manual lenses, some £10. The body and adapter are the real costs though.

On balance I'd go for the used SLR option.

I would suggest a cheap DSLR? What would your budget be? You could go a lot worse than a D40/D40X 18-55/55-200 combo. And if you can spend a bit more, the D5k really kicks some ass. Similar to a bridge with the LCD, compact, but crucially, it has the stunning sensor of the £1300 D300S. :) You can squeeze one in b/o for about £350.
 
Look in the F/S section for some bargains! My E-620 is in there along with some other great buys.
 
Hi

Not sure what the budget is yet. The reason i was thinking going bridge was to avoid buying any lenses, but as mentioned i know they wont keep up with a true dslr. Really dont want to dump any of the stuff i have left. The 70-200 has just gone and the 17-40 recently so that will help a lot.

Thanks for all the replies though, need to wait and see what happens next month and take it from there i think.
