These are the two most asked questions as soon as i put my camera down after a shoot.

"Well you can have them right now if you have Phase One"

It seems that now we are in a digital world, people just cant get their head round the fact that we, just like any craftsman, like to polish and shine our work.

When i point out the post pro involved they are shocked. Some think the magazine cover comes straight out the camera.

In the old days we had the magic of the dark room, a place where the wizard went to creat magic.

Now its all taken for granted.

Time to bring the mystery back i think

on top of all that ... no cream for my coffee in the office :bang:

Totally agree - a bit of mystic magic was great! Deadlines at the moment are just crazy - but you meet them and kind of make a rod for your own back by doing so.

Sounds like you're having one of those days :)

Prime example just as I was replying to the above post - just finished 8 book covers (I am a designer and cam clicker) Covers signed off at 10.25 this morning. Just had an email from the client asking where are the High Res PDFs???!!! Gis-a -chance!

I was doing a shoot for a petrol company

Me on location ... them head office .... finished shoot and gave them a call to say all done.

13:13hrs

"when can we have the pics?"

" when do you want them?"

"14:00 hrs"

Im in another country (has a north and south bit)

"er no ... i have to process and edit them"

"can you get them to us for 17:00 hrs, we need them urgent"

"well, i could wire you some low res jpgs if i can get to a connection"

"oh ... we wanted hi res tiffs for print"

AND STILL NO CREAM

I've been asked when the images will be available and I've also been told when the deadline is that I must comply with but I've never had a client say 'How come so long?'

What I have experienced is clients assuming you point an expensive camera at anything of your choice, at anytime, anywhere and wallop = instant magazine cover.

Or

'We want dynamics, we want windswept, we want an almighty powerful presence and we want lights and action and the world on a plate!'

and they want it in less than 5 minutes including get in and set up.

But never 'Why so long?'

Could it be possible that your over complicating the post a little, given the circs?

I think we all have our own way of applying the 'polish' but sometimes this isn't possible.

Agencies for example will not allow time for extensive post, they want the image on the shelf, available to sell before their competitors, usually the moment after you take it.
