Yes
Not the announced date on 1 Sept 2009 but the date it was in the shops. I was at Jessops today, New Oxford St. London, looking at one and I asked the guy if he knew when the next generation was going to come out only to be told that the current model only came out 14 months ago! That would be Feb. 2011. The same guy also claimed to have 12 DSLR's and that you could never have too many back up cameras.

It sounds like the same guy that works at cameraworld in Chelmsford as no matter what lens I ask for the only suggestion he has to give me is the 17-40L! Even when I ask about telephotos! Even when I asked about the 24-105L and the canon 50 f/1.4 he still suggested the 17-40!!!!!!!

That 'guy' was obviously full of bull!

I think the 7D actually came out around 2009. It was only a year or so after the 5DMk2 came out.

And having as for 12 DSLR's. Obviously none of us on here know the guy. It's entirely possible for someone to own 12 DSLR's, of course. If you want to clue the guy, just quiz him on what he's got!

The more I think about it, my idea of heaven is having more choice with my DSLR's than I do underwear.

Sadly typical of Jessops.

Camerapricebuster.co.uk has a "worst" price for the 7D in Sept 2009 of £1700 so I'd guess it came out around that time

I seem to remember the gap between announcement and availability was quite short, with the camera being available some time in (late?) September 2009.

I ordered mine from Jessops on 02/11/09, by which time it had already dropped in price from the £1699 launch price to £1499 and a week later it was down to £1299. I did get the price drop refunded and some Quidco cash back took the final figure down to something like £1167.
