When is the Noktor 0.95 coming to EF!!!!

Steve Huff tried it, the bokeh looked absolutely awful with trees in the back ground I seem to recall. Talk was it was a rebadged Senko lens? I did see some later shots that looked pretty decent for the price @ f0.95 though. I thought it was a 4/3 lens or is it coming out on all formats?

never since its a remounted C-type CCTV lens so I doubt it has the image circle to project on to a 135 frame. EF 100mm f2 will give you same FOV and DOF as the Noktor on a 4/3s lol


plus the bokeh is utterly horrific

I could be mistaken, but I think some of you may be thinking of the Noktor 50mm which was a cctv lens.
The Voightlander Noktor 25mm 0.95 is a micro four thirds lens, there's a lot of chat about it on the m4t forums but it's never appealed to me so Ive never read up on it, but it's supposed to be pretty trick.

I was actually talking about the Noktor 50mm and didn't realize there is a Voightlander Noktor 25mm 0.95. :lol:

Researched the Voightlander 25mm 0.95 and a review said at F/0.95, the image is only usable? It said that one have to stop down to 1.4 up and give a quality image. So, not worth to buy a 0.95 lens?　:thinking:

Lenses like that are never much good for still photography, it's pushing things too far. TBH, most of them are rubbish even though they can fetch huge sums when they come up for sale. Mainly because they're rare and collectors don't care about that sort of thing!

Even the Leica 50mm f/1.0 and f/0.95 are nothing special in sharpness terms, though the shallow DoF is pretty amazing! Cost around £7k.

Really high optical quality seems to hit the buffers around f/1.4. The Canon 50 and 85 f/1.2 L lenses are about as good as it gets but even they have some quirks.
 
The Leica 0.95 is described as 'amazingly sharp, even wide open. After 1.4, it behaves much like a 50 Summilux ASPH, maybe even with better color/contrast'

For £7k I'd expect it to be sharp wide open. Go look at Steve Huff's site and see for yourself.

Surely at f/0.95 what's out of focus matters more than what in focus

There are Leica's own MTF charts for quite a few lenses here, including 50mm 1.4, 1.2, and 1.0. Input the lens to download PDFs http://en.leica-camera.com/service/...finder_cameras/noctilux-m_50_mm_f1/index.html

I would rate the f/1.0 as pretty poor wide open, and certainly nowhere near as good as the f/1.4. For £7k you might at least expect it to match a £100 kit zoom, but it simply doesn't.

Not Leica's fault really, f/1.0 is just impossibly hard to make.
 
This lens was designed specifically for M4/3 fit so any chance of SLR fit is unlikely but if it does happen it won't be for a while yet. From what I have seen the lens is pretty poor at f/0.95 but does sharpen up quickly giving superb results.

By the way it's NOKTON not Noktor :D

How can you go on about the 'jewel like precision engineering' of the Fuji X100 or how good the lens is (despite the ropey sample pics) and then say a £7k Leica lens is fanboyism and it not even matching a kit lens?

I don't know what grudge you have against Leica, but just use your eyes and look at the pictures.

I don't have a grudge against leica I just don't see any real world difference in results


p.s where have I gone on about the 'jewel like precision engineering' of the Fuji X100 etc etc etc ???????????????????
 
Apologies I had two tabs open and was in the wrong thread. You wouldn't say people buy a Canon 1.2 lens because it is fanboyism they buy them because they are great lenses and can be put to good use. If you are dropping £7k on a lens it had better be excellent.
 
I'd not buy the 50mm f1.2 cause of the focus shift it has and I have no need for super duper thin DOF.

Look at the sample 0.95 pics. It's a £7,000 lens made by Leica, if it isn't sharp at 0.95 then it isn't going to be worth the premium.

That's a typical Leica fan review. You can't expect anything objective from someone who says they were "ECSTATIC!" (his caps) just at the prospect of being loaned such an exotic lens.

I'm sure Leica have done an amazing job with it, as you would expect for the price. But the problem is it's f/0.95, and nobody has ever managed to make a lens that is really good quality at that aperture. It just doesn't happen.

I'm not a fan of the f/1.2 Canons either, they're just a bridge too far when only half a stop smaller makes such a big difference to everything - to image quality, to size and weight, and to price. DoF is razor thin at f/1.4 anyway, and pretty hard to use because of that already. I just don't see the point in pushing things further when all you get, IMHO, is downsides.
