When to buy a 1dx

I'm sure im not the only one that could be interested in a 1DX but now with the recall I would not want to buy one at the moment as there is a chance it would immediately have to be sent in for repair.

im sure many will have the repair done that have not been sold yet and then sent out to the retailer but again not really what I want .
I would want a new camera not a recall been taken to bits and fixed one .

So when would be the time to buy ?

recalls are only for certain cameras under certain serial numbers...just buy a new one any time that doesnt use those serial numbers.... simple

I just had a look so if the sixth digit from the left is 8-9-or 0 then it would be ok .

On most Canon gear, yes. It's on a bar code. But there are several bar codes and it's not obvious what each of them is. So you need to check closely to see which one is the serial number. Obviously, knowing the pattern of the serial number (how many digits etc.) helps.

the serial number isn't always an indication that the camera is one of the batch that needs the recall / repair
my 1dx serial number fell into the ones that were on the recall list but it had the black mark on the silver bracket that made it not part of the recall batch

unfortunately if you are ordering a 1dx on line there is no real way of knowing which camera you are getting until it lands on your doorstep but if you are buying one from a retail outlet you have a chance of looking in the battery compartment for the black mark or the A mark

as far as when is a good time to buy is concerned i would say as soon as your ready there's no real indication of which need a recall and which don't
for example mine was purchased last september and doesn't need the recall but i have heard of 1dx's purchased quite recently that do
