Hey guys!
I'm new to TalkPhotography and really need some help. Basically my Grandad bought me a few weeks ago a vintage camera bag and only realized when he got home that there was a Canon FTb camera inside (bargain for £2). Anyways I only have the body of the camera and I am finding it really hard to find a lens for the camera. A lot of adapters keep popping up but I don't know what lens fits what. If you could help me out I would be really thankful.

Start with a good one of those, then add a roll of film and jobs a goodun!

Things to check on the camera:
Light seals around the film door have probably turned to goo by now, fairly easy to fix look for kits on ebay by "interslice" if hes still around
Check the meter works, will probably need a new battery which, most likely be the hardest thing to find, or use an external hand held one.

You'd probably bettter asking this in the film and conventional section here, i'm sure a mod would move it for you

You want an FD mount lens, there are literally thousands of them around if you search on ebay or most camera dealers. A 50mm f1.8 is probably a good place to start and they go for very little normally, such as this one on ebay (just an example, you could probably get one cheaper): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-C...=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item54010eb169

If you want guaranteed quality however, a dealer such as Ffordes will usually cost a little more but you will at least know the lenses work properly and are in the condition described:

You might find a decent lens on ebay for sure. You need a Canon FD or FL mounts I believe. However, kit this old is going to be worn and often not in the best condition and you can't see what you are buying on ebay.

Close to me in a town called Bridport is an outstanding used camera shop, it has all sorts of older lenses. He has a website which is http://filmisfine.co so you could contact him, or try and find a similar shop near you.

You might also want to check out http://www.rockycameras.com, who I've used before and found their products in good condition. Good luck with the camera I hope you get to use it. Learning on a manual film camera is a great way to learn.

I have a few film cameras but have even been given them as a gift with the lens or bought them myself. This one just so happens to not have the lens haha! Thank you :)

Be very careful with Rocky Cameras, the way the stuff there is described is usually with a good deal of 'licence', and when there are problems (a lot in the F&C section have used him and had problems) expect to have to practically sell your soul to get your money back (always pay with Paypal as opening a dispute is the only way to get the money back off him as he will not respond to emails asking for a refund). I brought a Minolta 35-70mm f4 off him and after shooting half a roll found the lens didn't stop down (so I was shooting wide open all the time). It was described as in perfect condition, yet emailing him repeatedly got me no response, so in the end I opened a Paypal dispute which eventually forced him to pay out after he refused to even reply to that.

Where about do you live (City or Town will do) so we can point you to a good retailer to take it along to and ask questions while you buy.

Try one of the companies on THIS thread

If you havent found a manual for it look HERE

I live in Widnes, just next to Liverpool but I have no problem travelling to places like Manchester:)

Real Camera Co up in the Northern Quarter in Manchester, a veritable Aladdin's cave and the guys there will be able to help you out with everything.
