I have been interested in doing a photo shoot with a model but dont really know a good place in the northeast to find models that would be OK working with an amateur. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

model mayhem, purestorm, netmodel. If you're hiring a studio, they might have some they can reccomend.

Alternatively, ask around :)

I personally find a photogenic friend and let the flattery, free tea and biscuits commence :p

I have quite a few contacts via MM, but I tend not to plan ahead to much so I dont often use any of them :(

tpfmodels.co.uk if your not wanting to hire models.

I need to try this method, as I'm on purestorm but its a pain sometimes and I'd like to just shoot and not have to liase :D

this is, of course, much easier if you're young and in a university environment like ourselves :P :D

Anyone who struggles to find good models in a university environment needs a firm slap for doing it wrong. You can guarantee that food and drink based bribes will appeal to some... a decent lasagne used to work wonders when I was at uni, moreso near the end of term when folk were more skint ;)

Get a girlfriend, it brings many other benefits :p

Otherwise, as above, Purestorm or Model Mayhem.

I have one, I take loads of pics of her but not keen on posting topless pics etc of her to be honest (for my eyes only lol) so would prefer to work with models since I wont have the protective feel over the pics. Also she wouldnt be happy if I posted revealing pics of her and Id get a beating lol. Thanks for all the help I'll check out the sites ;)

Would quite like a model to practice my photo skills on. Don't know if I feel confident enough to approach one though. I'm pretty novice at this and don't want to look a prat if I don't have enough equipment for the shoot etc.

Willenium - I think members of TP have organized group shoots in the past. These consist of 4/5 photographers, 1 studio and 1 or 2 models. Never been to one but hear they are a great laugh, so maybe try and get yourself on one?

Sounds like a plan. I will look out for anything like that being organised and try to attend.

Cheers dude

I would seriously consider hiring some time with an in-house model at a local studio. Ok, so it's gonna cost but "if you put nowt in you get nowt out". That way you got some pics to show future prospective models what you can do, and you get to gain some confidence with your abilities.

If there's one thing that has been re-inforced on me this weekend is the benefit of paying a few quid for an experienced model which is what Arkady generally suggests every time one of these threads comes up (and he's right).

I'm bloody terrible at directing models, I know how my camera works, I know roughly how I want my light to look and I know roughly where I want the model to stand. But experienced models know how to position themselves, how to pose properly, they won't just wait for you to say smile. I wish I'd had an experienced model this weekend.

If you're anything like me, forget the spare battery and UV filter or whatever other kit you've been saving for and spend a couple of quid on getting an experienced model.
