Hi guys

I love taking pictures of kingfishers, but for the last month and a half haven't had much luck. I go to Lackford Lakes in Suffolk fairly often, but recently nothing has really settled.

I see some amazing pictures on here, and apart from wanting to photograph kingfishers better, I also fancy a change of scene . So, where do you all go for your kingfisher shots?

Thankyou!

Thankyou :)

Anyone else willing to share their best locations for photographing kingfishers? :D

Hi,

I used to live in Suffolk and regularly canoed on the River Stour. I would see Kingfishers on many occasions. On one trip I saw 6 different Kingfishers.

The stretch of river is from Sudbury down stream but your best opportunity will be in the more remote areas.

Happy hunting,
Ken

I was recently walking along the River Lea from Waltham Abbey, Dragonfly Meadow I think it was called and saw one fly along the river in front of us. It's evidently well known for having them as well as water voles but is a foreign part of the country for me. Might be worth a look. Good luck anyway.

I've been to Lackford a couple of times in the last few weeks and haven't even seen a kingfisher....last Summer I went and spent hours with them on a daily basis!

Fowlmere's Spring hide was good if you can get there for 6am... I went, again last Summer, and met one of the RSPB chaps there...he told me exactly what this kingfisher would do when it arrived...and low and behold, it did it all! Not too sure if it'll be the same this summer mind as it was a juvenile last Summer so this years brood might be different.

Phil i went last week and there were a couple of fly pasts in Besse's and one guy in the reed hide saw one but apart from that nothing at all, Really grim at the moment. May have to hike to my Alton water stretch...Phew!!!

Thankfully, I should be able to crack my Manchester lot now I've my 300 2.8 and a remote release to use with my pocket wizards on the way! :D

Brute force hasn't caught them yet, so I need to play them at their own game

Ant (toonamp) seems to have had some success at Lackford....but I couldn't help but notice how empty the sightings board has been :(
