Where is Camera raw?

I have just downloaded and installed the Camera Raw plugin for Photoshop Elements 26 but how do I know it is working? There doesn't seem to be a reference to it in Elements so I had a look in my apps folder but cannot see it. Basically I just need to validate it's there and working ok. I am on Mac OS.
 
Well to say I am disappointed in this app is an understatement. After opening Elements photo editorI found camera raw listed in my files menu. So I opened a raw image in camera raw then compared it to opening the same raw image without opening camera raw (in the photo editor) and found no difference in the image. They both looked the same. So I ask the question, when you open a raw file from the organiser does camera raw automatically start? I am confused! My frustration stems from watching the spinning beach ball almost continually whilst waiting. I have 16gb of ram and loads of hard disk space so why so slow? Before retirement I used Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator and others but never had all this! Sorry for all the doom but perhaps I should just rely on Canon apps.

I use Camera Raw in Lightroom rather than in Elements but I expect it is very similar. It is likely to be set to default settings which make little or no adjustments. Have you checked the Camera Raw settings?

That's my point. How do I check Camera Raw settings? I cannot find it.

Yes, Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) is included with Adobe Photoshop Elements, including the 2026 version. However, the plugin is no longer pre-packaged with the initial installation. [1, 2]
Because of this, you will need to do a quick, one-time download to get it working. To install and access it: [1]
  1. Install: Open the Photoshop Elements Editor, go to the Help menu, and click Install Camera Raw.
  2. Access: Open your RAW files by going to File > Open in Camera Raw. [1, 2]
Once installed, it operates as a floating editor above your main workspace, allowing you to fine-tune your RAW photos with basic adjustments like exposure, highlights, shadows, and color balance before you bring the image into the main Elements editor. [1, 2, 3]
