Hello everyone.

I have a little problem, my wife has dragged me off to Birmingham for a two week holiday! Not that I have anything against Birmingham, but I had a more exotic place in mind!

Anyway I am of course taking my camera but have no clue about where to take pictures. I am (I like to call my self anyway) nature photographer, I like landscapes too.

Any ideas, I have a car...sorry we have a car so within 20 miles around Birmingham is cool.

Thanks in advance

Bobby

Birmingham itself has some good structures.. if you want to travel try Coventry west side, I think that is where the major parks are.. otherwise around the NEC... be cheeky and see what shows are on... you do have the lovely motorways and the famous speg. junction... sorry not much more help as these are the only things I know about brum.. you could try google and visit birmingham if any help?

Just an hour or so down the M5 you could be in the Cotswolds, with some stunning countryside to photograph.

Right in the centre of Birmingham you have the canal, and Gas Street Basin. Some fabulous photo opportunities of colourful canal boats, new high-tech buildings, interesting architecture and people...

They have done a wonderful job of preserving the old and blending it with the new. Perhaps not quite nature and landscapes, but very interesting and photogenic.

2 weeks in Birmingham? Yikes!

I haven't done this myself yet but I intend too (I work in Brum but don't live there), but you have to get a shot of the Bullring, Selfridges side. It's got metal discs all over it, and it would make a cracking night time exposure. There's a multi-story car park connected via a foot-bridge which would give you a good view of it.

There's also a big metal bull outside the front of the center, which would be cool in the early morning light (forget it later, it's so busy, everyone stops to have a snap with it).

Lots of places would be cool after dark, just keep an eye on your gear. Try the Mailbox, and around Victoria Square (Town Hall building).

There's the BT tower too. Loads of options :)

Thanks for your messages guys. I have never thought of arcitecture much for photography. To be honest I was hoping for any places where I could have an opportunity for wildlife really.

I may have a go at the arcitecture. The bull ring sounds interesting. Any reserves etc. around?

Thanks again for the replies

My god.. I honestly wish you lots of luck. Spaghetti junction and the Bull Ring spring to mind. oh. Just out of interest Why did your Wife chose Birmingham for a two week break?

Google is your friend But Birmingham is not it would seem. It will defo be a challenge for your creativity to find something interesting to photograph in Birmingham

And don't forget Cannock Chase as well - plenty of deer and not too far. And if you can face an hour down the M5, there are the Malverns.

or, if you can negotiate a day pass and have a car, head north into the peak district for some stunning countryside.

The Bull Ring is a shopping centre I'm afraid, not a wildlife reserve!

What about the area around Ironbridge? Thats quite nice and not too far from Birmingham.
