well was thinking of minolta 50mm af or something like that i have a m42 adaptor but i just not getting the focus right si im going to bite the bullet i think !!!! just need somewhere to buy it really

If you can get what you want at a non-rip-off price from a local bricks'n'mortar shop, do so. There may well come a time when you NEED to get something from them and if they're not used (as a shop rather than a showroom for cheap internet suppliers) they may well not be there when you do.

right, so you have a Minolta AF or Sony Alpha body?
Castle Cameras are showing "Used Minolta AF 50mm f1.7 Sony fit, Good Condition: £ 79 At Bournemouth (01202 526606)" which is about as cheap as you'll find a Minolta AF 50/1.7 these days - eBay prices are regularly well over £100.

I know of several close to me but I'm afraid I don't know of any close to you. It's worth looking in the Yellow Pages and phoning round - you may find that Sony/Minolta stuff is harder to find than Canon or Nikon but it's worth a shot.
