Hi All,

Looking at doing a couple of days and nights in Scotland around August / September but having never been to scotland, I have no idea where the best parts are to get the best photographs.

I have always imagined beautiful mountains with lakes and tarns etc.

Does anyone have any ideas what areas would be best. Also looking to camp so it would need to be close enough to a campsite, no matter how basic, so not too far in the sticks LOL

Plenty of Lochs and mountains, just the 1 lake though, Lake of Menteith,
Will you have transport while your here, that could make a big difference for getting about. Loch Lomond is an obvious choice, plenty of camp sites, Ben Lomond and the Arrochar alps close by, day trips into argyll, glen Coe or the Trossachs all easily doable, all less than 40 mins from central Glasgow.

+1 for Loch Lomond area. Having your own transport is almost essential though. Watch out for the midges! Almost anywhere up the west coast would be good but Loch Lomond is more accessible if you only have a few days.

Well I was originally looking at the train but that takes over 8 hours (Could fly to the states in that time lol) then looked at plane but that is too pricey really so it may well be down to car.
If that's the case, and you guys are saying own transport would greatly benefit then I am sure that's the way we will go.

I am googling all those places now. :-)

I am wanting to shoot more dramatic landscapes too. You know the type of thing, rocky cliffs, water, old buildings, rough waves etc etc. West coast good for that stuff?

With only a couple of nights available, I suggest the SW of Scotland, which will be easy for you to reach. Somewhere around Newton Stewart or Castle Douglas.

Scotland is a diverse country with, geographically, everything from gentle rolling farmland to huge areas of exposed mountains that many visits are needed to experience most of it.

Chris is right, be careful not to try to go too far in a short time - you'll find you spend all the time traveling.

Hope you have a great time in an excellent country.

Dave
