I've bitten the bullet, after photo's posted from the recent WHF visit I've booked my place as a birthday treat to myself.

I want to make the most of the day and make sure I have the right lens/es for the day so after your advise.

I currently have a 500D, the only 'good lens' I have is the 100-400L, is it worth taking something shorter for the day?

What would people who've been recommend?

you will require shorter. I take my 70-200, as well as shorter 17-85mm

Another vote for a 70-200.

These where both with the siggy 2.8

If you are loking to Buy Ryan, the 70-200 F4 non IS is great in my opinion, great color rendition from that one :D

If we make it to CWP next week you cn have a play if you wish ;)

All my shots from this year and last year were taken with my 70-200

Most of my shots were with a 70-200 others with a 100mm Macro or 16-35mm.

the car park is further back now as the new visitor center is open..though its not THAT far

if you come in from headcorn direction, its first right after the bridge, if you come in from smarden side its the first left AFTER marley farm

I'm not sure which direction I came from last year, but the sat-nav must have got me there ...
So will the postcode work OK for this year or will I have to keep my eyes open for signs when we get near?

You don't use the entrance that goes through the farm but theres a new entrance nearer the railway bridge with big wooden gates, thats the one to use, my satnav got me to the farm but doesnt tell you what entrance to use

Thanks for that
If I remember correctly that is was happened to me last year!

Edit: So the information on the website is wrong? (About going through the industrial estate.)

Yep, you now don't go through it

Back OT ...

Any one have any thoughts on the modern 18-135 or 18-200mm sigma/canon lenses? My daughter will be coming with me this year, and using my 40D. She won't want to faff about changing lenses, besides which I have had to sell most of my "spare" lenses.
