Off for the fun of WHF and just wanted some rec's on what to take.

Kit consists of :-

12-24 f4 (Nikon)
24-70 f2.8 (Sigma)
70-200 f2.8 VR (Nikon)
105 micro f2.8 (Nikon)
35 f1.8 (Nikon)

Should I just haul the lot along with me or go with a select couple?

TAKE THE LOT :D

Your car will be less than 2 minutes walk away from you so have it there and grab what you want

I would have the 24 70 / 70 200 on you as these should be the most used and prob the best for the day..

weather looks good for you so enjoy

I can not wait till aug :bang:

Excellent news about the short walk, cheers mate. That's settled it (y)

I've been looking forward to this since I booked up, and one of the reasons I pulled the trigger on the 70-200.

Yeah, take the lot. You can do surprisingly well with a 105 macro!

Uncropped with the Sigma 105. :)

Last year all I used was the 70-200 2.8 and I was very happy with my shots..

after dinner you will have the chance to walk around and shoot waht you want so then you can chose what lens you want for the kind of shots your after.

A few words of advice ;) if you dont mind..

1 have a idea of what hots your after. " this will stop you just rattling off 1000 shots..
2 watch out for the backgrounds.. " i:e people in the shots / fences / building

these will help your hit rate and help you get better more pleasing shots imho

Wow - if you can do that with the 105 I should be able to get a clear shot of the retina with my Sigma 150 :D

See you Saturday Paul, and NO, I will not be your sherpa :p

yeah you park basically with all the cages in a ring around the car park, never more than 100m or so from the car but i used 70-300 all day quite happily, you do get a chance for closer stuff if you want though

Thanks again MD, and for the tips (y)

Most of my shots there where with a 70-200. Also have with you a wide angle - in many instances you are only a short distance [1 metre or less ] from the cats.

Good tips from MD and some others here: http://www.whf.org.uk/hints.cfm.

:bang: post duplicated

Everything is going in my car but I will certainly be carrying round my 70-200 and 24-70. See you tomorrow Paul. :woot:

Took my 28-75 and 80-200 last weekend although also used the 120-400 for a few close ups. This was one of my favs from the day:

Was the big cat sizing you up for lunch Nick?

 I think he would have liked that a lot, at least bearing in mind how he liked to lurch up at the fence every so often just to keep everyone on their guard

Great weather forcast, so it should be a good first time for me. Do you reckon it's worth bolting a CPL on the 70-200 if it's going to be this bright?

I would certainly be tempted if I had one but hopefully it won't be too bright.

How do you rate the 35mm f/1.8?

Is it the least sharpest out of the above lenses?

I really like it. Small and light. Pretty sharp at 1.8 if you use spot focus (dont know why, but it seems to be). I would say its pretty close mid f stop, and on par with the sigma at least. I havent had the 12-24 long enough to compare, but theres a bunch of stuff shot with all of them on my flickr

Ok, was hoping someone else was going to ask, but it must just be too obvious.

What is WHF?

Scrap that, am sure that link wasn't there earlier.
