right guys, not sure if this is in the right place if it's not please move it to the right place:thumbs:

right basically im going to whf on the 12th and dont want to lug around all my kit as most of it will be pointless anyway.

i've come to the conclusion im going to hire a lens for the occasion as none of mine are fantastic.
question is do i go 28-300mm or is there a lens more suited to the occasion than this?

thanks in advance emma.

thing is i dont want to be caught out length wise and miss the shot because im changing lenses, i dont want it to be too long so i can't ge the closeup shot's but not long enough to get the lion thats decided not to play ball if that makes sense?

What about your 18-200mm? I am looking at hiring something of similar focal length for my daughter to use (we are also going on the 12th.) Last year I used a bit of everything, but like you my daughter will not want to keep changing lenses (and I don't have enough lenses for us to share either.)

I've shot there a number of times. 70-200 should be fine, 300mm is useful but not necessary - you do get quite close to the cats !!

excellent thanks for the advice guys, i'll probly end up taking all of my kit and leaving most of it in the boot anyway. I just really don't want to miss that 1 shot if you know what i mean.
looking really foreward to meeting the other members and putting names to faces

I have been a couple of times and anything around the 70-200 has been super.

Like you say take all your kit " you can leave it in your boot and just pop and get it if needed..

But like i say i have been and just used the 70-200.

I'm just trying to work out what I used last year ... everything from 17mm to 600mm it seems! Will you be using two camera bodies? If so that will make things easier.

unfortunately just the 1 body, my 350d ended up with my ex.
might be able to talk my dad into letting me use he's 20d body though............
saying that the biggest length i have is 300 anyway

When I went in May most people had their bags with them, all tended to be dumped nearby. If you're not taking too much, no need to leave in the boot, take it with you so if you do want to change lens it's close at hand.

Personally I found the 70-200 too long at times but ok most of the time. My wife had the 28-135 which seemed about right as a one lens solution.

Enjoy!

I used my 17-85mm and 70-300mm most of the time, I did find the 70 too long on occasions and only needed the 300mm for the Cheeths. It is not too bad switching from one lens to another as you have enough time and you can judge what you will need from where the animals are in the cage.

I had a quick look at last years pics (still haven't got round to processing most of them yet ... )
I won't bore you all with all the stats, but I was surprised by some of them ...
Out of just over a thousand pics:
17mm - 50mm = 231 pics
50mm - 70mm = 258 pics (96 at 55mm)
70mm - 140mm = 225 pics
140mm - 150mm = 130 pics (98 at 150mm)
150mm - 600mm = 120 pics
