Which Base Plate??

Iv had problems when using my tripod in landscape due to the base plate creeping! so, im looking to get a larger one.. im using the RC2 atm but when i checked on the other types i was somewhat unsure as to which would be best! there are a fair few to choose from, i would imagine they are for different uses...

So.. Which one??? :shrug:

Do you mean portrait?

What sort of gear are you attaching to the tripod? The only time I've had issues with the camera moving in relation to the base plate is when I've had a 70-200f2.8 attached to the front, when I really should have been using the tripod collar on the lens.

Maybe flip it over the other way so that it tightens up with gravity?

If you want the best option look at ballheads that use the Arca Swiss compatible mount

Setup can be a little pricey, but they really are very good.

Are you looking at just changing the mount or is a completely new ballhead on the cards?

Lewis, sorry about that, i do indeed mean in portrait! I use a D700 with a 24-70 and its creeping! i could understand if it were the 70-200 i have..

Im looking at getting the Manfrotto 468 Hydrostatic but not sure which plate to get it in..

Richard, i'll look at the Arca option, i did think about it, i need to look at it now..

The thing I like about the arca system is you can get base plates designed for you camera.

They have a machined lip that matches the contour of your camera which in turn totally prevents any slippage of the plate.

Have a look as THIS for an example.

I also find the arca fastenings much better too - more secure.

If I were spending that sort of money it would go on this and the appropriate plate for my camera
