For my birthday (in May) I think I'll ask for a Battery Grip from family, they can all chip in.

But how do they differ?

Looking on Amazon and Ebay, I see I can get one for about £40 new.

Some come with batteries.. good :)

But there are some that have LCD displays on the back with a few button functions.. they also seem to come with remote controls.

I like the look of these types :)

You see these also at about £130 on Ebay but they look exactly the same as the ones on Amazon at about £40.

Can anyone give me an idea of what I should be looking at.

Tnx

Personally I would stick with Canon, or if not an option try Hahnel, German engineering, new or secondhand, two displays I found can be confusing tried it , went and bought Hahnel in the end.

I've got Meike grips for all my cameras, a 550D, a 7D and a 5D2, and I've saved enough by buying them to get a Canon 70-200 f4 L lens compared to the Canon originals. I've bought them all off ebay and the most expensive was £59.95 for the 5D2 grip with a couple of 3rd party batteries. They all work flawlessly, report all the battery levels correctly and are rugged enough for everyday use.
