Hello everyone newbie here,
I have an fz1000 which I use for everything but I do miss having a dslr for portraits and low light, I was thinking the Nikon 50 and 35mm primes but which body? Been looking at the d3300, 5200 etc or a d7000 so was wondering there's one that would suit better than the others or in terms of IQ would I really be able to tell them apart? I don't want spend much on the body

Had a 60d before not so sure I'd want another
 
It would be mine but as I said I don't want spend a lot on the body

For me you are paying for the external controls with a body like the D7000, plus it's got an in built motor for using older "D" lenses. And maybe similar in operation to the 60d.

The 5300, etc...... are newer with the extra MP but for me I have owned the D7000 and D7100 there wasn't a great deal between them ISO wise. Although you did have the extra cropping facility with the 24mp D7100 which is good for wildlife. Some even say they prefered the output from the Sony sensor in the D7000 over the Toshiba one in the D7100.

You can get a D7000 for under £400 from HDEW, they sometimes advertise the D7100 for £495 and you can get an extra £25 off when they do their bank holiday deals etc....... The D7100 may even come down in price as the D7200 has been released.

My advice would be to go and try them all out and buy which you feel more comfortable with in the hand as they are all capable cameras. When I tried before, I prefered the feel of a D3xxx body over the D5xxx series.

Also, sometimes Currys, Amazon etc....... do a double lens deal with the Nikon 3 & 5 series. You could sell the lenses on and put the money towards your primes, if desired.

For those that have or have had both does the 24mp and no Aa filter make a noticeable difference?

I do get the impression the IQ is a little better with nikon say compared to the 700d anyone been able to.compare, I know it's not a major.issue but have always preferred the Canon menu system
 
I don't think you would really see much of a difference, the main differences will be control layout, extra features, more control wheels etc
 
The touch screen I do like a lot, Ive had a d300 and a k5 where I loved the better build but it's not something I need just trying to convince myself of that lol
 
I'd buy another k5 but they have no cheaper quality lenses
 
Well with 60d/d7000 at least you get a second control wheel to negate the touchscreen
 
True I don't want another 60d so that's out oh decisions decisions :-(
 
All I need are 1 or two primes for low light so I guess body doesn't matter but we are fussy
 
I use a D7000 and primes - ace! 35mm 50mm 105mm Love them. Looking to buy a couple more D7000's for future use - when I'm 80! Hmm, not long to go.
 
There's something about the d7000 I wanted one when it come out is it good in low light?
 
Compared to a 40d, yes. Compared to a d750 , no. Pretty subjective question with a lot of variables involved
 
I know, without being able compare it's difficult but that's why I tend to think the newer sensors may? Be better for my needs ie d5200/5300? Keeping the body price reasonable

And nikon have the the 35 and 50mm excellent and cheap primes
 
As do canon, the 50mm is actually cheaper for canon. Depends how much you value the second control dial, personally I couldn't be going into menus to change basic settings
 
I had a D7000 and for night shots it was great. It died and got a D7100 and the Live view is useless at night and there are so many other problems with close up moon shots (no live view as seen settings) I wish I could afford another D7000 for nightime. But the D7100 rocks in most other uses.
 
Thanks live view not an issue, for that and video I'd always use the fz1000 this is purely for stills and primes so I may be fussing too much about the body

Just out of curiosity, if you like the canon menus, why have you ruled out canon?
 
Not ruled them out at all apart from the 60d,(had 2) I just get the impression from reviews etc that nikon have the better IQ, I may be misguided on that or just taking too much into reviews and opinions?

Why rule out the 60d though? Any iq difference will depend on lens used, ISO value etc.. It won't be noticeable in the real world
 
Very true if I went canon I'd want the touch screen I may go 700d and 50mm 1.4
 
Have you considered a used 70d? That has touchscreen plus the 2 control dials, which should make it a nice camera to handle. You haven't mentioned a budget?
 
I said £400 in earlier post I don't want to spend £££ on a body
 
Fair enough must have missed that, does that include your lenses or body only?
