I am looking for a good Circular Poleriser to go on my 17 - 40 L Lens... I have been looking at getting a B+W Slim Circular Poleriser. Is this a good choice?

Yes it is, watch out where you buy it though, there are fakes about especially on eBay. B+W filters tend to be very good quality and priced to match.

is there really that much difference between the cheap filters and the expensive ones? I wanted a selection of them so I bought a few cheaper ones

The B+W Slim Circular Polarizer - especially the MRC versions are very good, and really easy to clean.

Pricey and I would be a little wary of cheap ones...

"and really easy to clean."

This is a good point as I have a Hoya filter, which is pretty good, but a bloody nightmare to clean.

The B&W are really good.
