Which camera backpack?

No
As title, I need a camera bag thats a backpack in the style of the lowepro dryzone rover (which I used to own), but larger.

The dryzone wasnt really needed persay, I was never swimming around with it :p, and a rain cover is more than enough to keep out the odd shower.

NOW, im going abroad in august and need a backpack thats comfy and holds:

Canon 40D, 3 lenses, extra bats, lots of filters, etc

AND all my 'carry on a plane' stuff, jumper, documents, mag, food, water, perhaps a mini med kit if im out walking while abroad (will b in europe, greece etc)

Now for my stuff the dryzone wasnt big enough in the top compartment, I need a little more.

Iv got it down to (purely as they seem the biggest bags available)

Lowepro Rover Plus AW

OR

National Geographic Earth Explorer Large Photo Backpack

Are there any others? Will these fill my needs?

WHY does no one make a 'sensible' back pack for cameras+other stuff :bang:

Have you looked at the Tamrac Adventure 9 ?

I get my 40D + grip, 24-70, 10-20, 70-300 IS & 50mm in it, plus my Cokin "P" filter box, as well as a number of cards etc.

My flash goes in the "top" compartment, along with my bins, water, wallet etc.

It also has a computer section in side, but when I'm not carrying the laptop I use it to hold either a fleece or a lightweight Kagoul type thing. I have also added a couple of extra bits on the main webbing, one for my phone and another for my sunglasses.

Was about £70 and the only thing that annoys me a little is that it doesn't come with an obvious way of attaching a tripod, but I got that sussed now as well.

Cheers for that, the adventure 10 looks up my street, however my flights say:

# Hand baggage must not exceed 45cm long x 56cm high x 25cm deep (approx 22ins x 17.7ins x 9.9ins) in dimension or 5kg in weight.

And the adventure 10 is:

External Dimensions: 36 x 27 x 64cm or 14W x 10½D x 25H

like for like I guess thats:

Bag 36 64 27
Air 45 56 25

Just under apart from height,

How strict do you think they will be ? Flying from glasgow to greece.

Not worth finding out when you get to the airport, if oversize it may have to go in the hold......., phone the carrier and ask directly.......

I have a Tamrac Expedition 7 which is ok as hand luggage with BA.

I am very happy owner of Tamrac Expedition 5. One disadvantage I can find is that on its own backpack weights 2kg, when you add 3 lenses, camera, flashguns plus some extra stuff and it gets quite heavy, but you mostly carry it on your back so it's not big issue

Thread revival !!

Same question folks, im after another camera backpack. My current bag setup is (and the issues I have with them):

Tamrac 9 - Great all round backpack, however large and cumbersome, not good for strolling around hot cities in Europe for example.

Lowepro SlingShot 300 - Again large single strap backpack I use for events, holds all I need and obviously can swing it around to change lenses fairly quickly, however way to big and hurts the shoulder if used for any amount of time with loads in it.

Lowpro Nova 1 AW (little shoulder bag thing) - Only useful for a non gripped SLR with upto about a 135mm lens, light, small, but NO room for anything other than that.

My Ideal bag now, and the only thing missing from stuff I need from a bag is, a smallish light backpack, that id use for walking around hot cities and countries in Europe and id want it to hold SLR + 2 lenses or so, + a few accessories like filters etc, as well as a largeish holdall section for other things (map, drink, food, souvenirs etc).

Now the tamrac 9 is close to that requirement, except I dont like its insulating back section, and unneeded laptop holder, also it holds upto about 3-4 lenses, the top section however is perfect for my size needs in holding other things.

ALSO is there a back pack with an air gap for your back ? They sell normal back packs in outdoor stores where the back is a plastic/material mesh that goes against your back and lets air through, the back of the rucksack itself is raised back about an inch or so allowing air through, that would be exactly what im looking for, but with a space for camera + 2 lenses + some small accessories and a 'other stuff' section.

So any ideas? lol

The Kata R-103 sounds ideal for what you're looking for. Absolutely superb quality and design!
