My grandson has asked me which camera is best for movies, unfortunately I know nothing about that side of photography. He is making films with two of his friends on a college project, one uses a Nikon D3200 and the other a Canon 750D. I suppose I shall end up buying one for him, and as I have Nikon equipment it would probably make sense for me to suggest a Nikon. I would be buying on here, and the budget would be around £200. I saw a thread on here that someone said a 3100 with 18-55 kit lens went for £100, but I don't even know if that would be the right kind of lens for movie photography. Any help would be appreciated.

This is FAR from my area of expertise but a cheap DLSR isn't really the tool for video (and the D3100 doesn't have video anyway) but if you were to get one then get one with a flippy screen - something from the D5X00 series (talking Nikon) and not the D3X00.
For movies you want smooth manual focus so a kit lens is far from ideal...

At least some mirrorless cameras and all SLTs (Sony) are able to do smooth autofocus during video which can be a great advance over having to do your own smooth manual focus changes.

As far as DSLRs go the Canon EOS 70D or 80D have the best focussing in video mode. They have dual pixel feature which vastly improves the focusing during video recording. When used with the new STM lenses it works extremely well.
