Which camera body

I have decided that I'm going to get a 2nd body or should I say get a #1 body and keep my current one as a backup, leave in the glovebox etc.

After much thought about what I like/dislike I realise that I love to see wildlife/animals and transport (motorsport, aircraft) and maybe occasionally landscapes, so I'd say these are my main themes I would take pictures of, so I have now shortlisted these cameras and would like to ask for suggestions and also explinations as to why I should pick them, of course if you have another option I'm happy to listen.

Nikon D300
Nikon D7000
Nikon D90

of the three you mention I heard that d7000 is better than the other 2 (more recent, improved)
Value for money though at the mo D90 is very good at nearly 1/2 the price.
Put the rest towards a 300mm F4 lens

really depends how much to spend, as just said above D90 looks good for money - main thing it will bring you is the ability to use non motorised ie cheaper esp secondhand lenses.

D7000 is a wonderful camera but is twice the price or so of the D90 - it is still fairly small and light and bateery lasts forever so maybe you could get this and also keep it with you thereby allowing you to sell the D40x for maybe 200 notes.

Don't consider the D300 - old and slow compared to D7000.

Would hardly call the d300 slow, plus it still produces excellent pictures
