Yes
my father in law has been sorting the attic out and found a copy of WHICH CAMERA from end of 1991.

Having a browse through the pages shows one main thing....photography has NEVER been cheap :p

Camera = price (current price online)

Lecia M6 = £2076 (£1200)
Rollei 6008 = £3331 (£700)
Hasselblad 500 classic = £2273 (??)
Nikon F4 = £1371 (£230)
Canon EOS-1 = £1020 (£175)
Contax RTS III = £1650 (??)

Very interesting looking at prices and cameras from 20 years ago :)

Canon EOS-1 = £1020 (£175)

According to this site £1020 in 1992 was the equivalent to £1500 in 2010 (it doesn't carry 2011 figures).

Calumet's price for a EOS 1D Mark IV is £3699 and a EOS 1Ds Mark III is £5099, though obviously there's a lot more to them than an EOS 1.

It'd be interesting to know what an EOS 1000F cost to judge the other end of the market.

My fuji fine camera was cheap enough, but I remember my 80-200 lens being two months salary.

If we wait long enough the price will come down on the camera we want.
But by then we want something else dearer.......:(:nono:

The price will come down, but will the cameras survive? These days they are full of sundry delicate bits, and what with every camera having at least 3fps as standard, 1/4000th shutters and more electronics than Neil Armstrong flew with, I doubt if many will survive.

My dad bought a Pentax Spotmatic with a Takumar 50mm 1.8 for around £200 in 1970-ish. He passed it on to me, I passed it on to my niece who is still using it for her Fine Arts degree. It's been in more or less constant use for 40 years. From what I've seen it still takes great shots. Since I went digital around 2000 I've had about 6 cameras for work. OK changes were often because I had to upgrade to keep up with the opposition, but a couple of them died around the 100,000 shot mark. No idea what that Pentax has done, but it's way more than that.

(Having said that, I'd rather stick sharp pins into my eyes than go back to working with film :D)

I think photography has got cheaper, but many camera are cheaper to make,a lot of stuff that used to be made in Japan, have moved to other counties.
Will it get any cheaper,I think for a little while we will see some prices rises, more so on the semi pro & pro stuff :)
