Which camera out of these?

I'm looking at venturing into the world of DSLR's.

These are the ones I'm looking at, at the moment :

Sony Nex-5A
Pentax KR
Nikon D5000

More so between the Pentax and the Sony. Thing I like about the Sony is the 1080i/720p video recording looks great (from what I've seen on youtube), but not sure if it's shots are similar/better than the Pentax? Also the slim size.

Would be used for holiday shots and also some hobby photography.

If anyone could advise I would be most greatfull :)
 
Choosing a camera really is something quite personal. Lots of people could give lots of conflicting advice, generally recommending the one they own. If I were you, I would read the reviews, (I think these have all been reviewed at http://www.dpreview.com but dont take all they say as definative!) and get an idea of their strengths and weaknesses.

If you can get to a camera shop that sells these, have a hold of them. They are all quite different and you may get a good feeling for just one of them.

Yep, your totally right - I asked on a non-camera forum before coming here and it started off well but by the end of the thread, I was totally confused with everyone recommending cameras they own.

I've read several reviews across the net on all three and they all seem like decent cameras (to me anyway, coming from sub £100 point and clicks!). I will take a look at reviews on the site you mentioned, thanks for the reply :)
 
i just bought an NEX5 & i have to say i'm very impressed with it & prefer it to the Panasonic GF1 i had a few months back...low light performance is excellent & the panorama is great fun if a little low res, if you go for an nex5 first thing to do is update the firmware to version3 as it makes the user interface a lot better to use

Okay thanks, will bear that in mind if I do go for the Nex. What lens do you use? The 16mm pancake or one of the other two?
 
Just another thought or two.
Dont forget, the camera you choose now is just going to be the base for your photography, adding lenses and other equipment as you go.
Have a think about the sort of images you want to take then look at the sort of lenses you will need to get those shots.
A lot of people will buy zoom lenses giving them coverage of most focal lengths then maybe a prime or two for more specific shots. This all amounts to a substantial investment so a bit of research into lenses and prices too would be a good idea.

Isn't the NEX 5 an SLD?

The sony E mount doesn't have much lens choice at the moment.
