I'm currently looking to get a new camera having previuosly owned a Fuji S9600.

I'm stuck between the Nikon D40 and Sony A200?

Opinions or anything else out there for the money (max £300)?

Hi

If you search back you will find various threads regarding which camera to buy etc. The main advice is to get to a shop and have a play around with various models - see which feels most comfortable and see which has the controls that feel the most natural (maybe similar to your fuji) and intuative to use.

Cost also plays a part, possibly the best deal you can get will make your mind up.

Have a look at www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for ideas on prices

Good luck with your search

And the lenses are dearer for the D40,as it does not have an internal motor to focus the lenses.

I think that's a very misleading statement to be honest. From what I've seen it's totally random who's lens cost the most for any particular focal length... There are always loads of third party lenses to choose form as well, and for them there will be more Nikon fit ones than Sony... ;) Just trying to balance views here. :)

Either camera is good. Do some research and hold them both in your hand... then make your choice. :D

The D40 is out of production now, so stocks can be quite hard to find. Both are excellent cameras, you'll have more choice of new or secondhand lenses with the Nikon, but on the flipside the Sony has a lot more features that you might find useful.

As Munchkinn says, go and try them both and only then make your choice - don't buy a camera purely on the specification, if it doesn't feel comfortable for you to hold then you'll end up not using it....
