Looking for a new card reader for my Sandisk Ultra/Extreme cards. Any recommendations please?

I use this one. Can't complain- reliable, fast- does the job nicely:)
 
Agreed, just got the Lexar to go with the new laptop as it is USB 3. Been great so far.
 
At least it's going the right way- unlike most other things lol. Just checked and I paid £19.33 a couple of years ago from amazon

I too use this type,apart from being USB3 the actually connection pins are set well back which allows the card to align properly before connecting, stopping the dreaded bent pin syndrome

Do you have USB 3.0? Hard to recommend until we know that. I can recommend a few based on speed and reliability, but if you're stuck on USB 2.0, then you're stuck at around 12MB/sec no matter how fast your cards are.
 
No, I have USB 2.0. Just looking for something reliable really.

They are, yes... but plugged into a USB 2.0 port... you'll get 12MB/sec max regardless of how fast your CF/SD cards are, so unless you plan to upgrade to a computer with USB 3.0 any time soon, so get any old crappy card reader from ebay, and get a decent one when you actually need it.


Does your computer have e-SATA? If so... this would be an alternative

That will be able to max out your CF cards over the SATA bus.

As for reliability... I've often used Icy Box gear for card readers, external drive housings etc. scan.co.uk sell their stuff.
 
That's the same one I have at work. Been trouble free and has a really weird, but strangely attractive rubberised finish :)
 
you can get pci-e cards that will give you a couple of usb3 ports, so if thats suitable for your pc its a good option, its what i did with my mums pc
