Which Compact Camera?

Hi guys, my parents are looking for a new compact camera. They are looking to spend £150 max, although I know there are some great deals on the internet, so its RRP could be higher than that if it can be found cheaper. They're basically looking for an easy to use camera that is good for family snaps, good video quality (720 or 1080p) and pocket size.

Are there any decent ones out there? What would you suggest?

Also, I have been wondering about the 720p vs 1080p. Is there a noticeable difference? Because my camera (canon eos 1000d) doesn't have video, so I'd like to use the video on the camera for vids of fish and piano playing (so sound quality would need to be very good with no awful screeches).

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Ben:)

Thanks, I'll show them it and see what they think. They have been looking at some more expensive cameras now, up to about £220. Are there any around that price range that'd be suitable? And for that price I'm guessing you can get decent 1080p video as well?

cheers,
Ben:)

Hi, they've decided to go for the canon ixus 115hs. I've read some reviews and the specs, and it seems like a good choice to me. I'm particularly pleased that it has full HD movie, so I may be borrowing it in the near future for my fish :D.

What do you think of this camera?

cheers,
Ben:)

Thanks, those pics are really good for a compact.

Thanks for your opinion, I think they'll go for that one.

Cant go wrong with the Ixus.

If you up your budget slightly- you could pick up a Panasonic TZ10.

I personally love mine :)

I've had a TZ10 too/
For a compact camera it's got pretty good reach so quite versatile.
