Which Compact for £500?

Is there a specific size requirement as difference between S110/RX100 and X20/X100 is a fair bit.

If you are happy with a fixed lens and size is not an issue I would go for the X100.

No size isn't so important, it will mainly be in my bag not a pocket. I think I can live with a fixed lens. I tend to need wider than zoom so can just stitch shots if necessary. It's really for travel and a bit of street. Thanks for the opinion.

If you don't need a zoom then X100 would get my vote hands down, it's a joy to use, has a decent viewfinder and stunning IQ

If you want a zoom lens then I'd say have a look at the RX100, if you're happy with a fixed lens then get the 2nd hand X100.

Hi Wayne,

Just to play devils advocate why not an EOS-M seeing as you have canon kit?
I loved mine prior to the firmware update, with the firmware update its just amazing!

Depends how compact you want compact to be and what functionality you want I guess

You're always welcome to pop up to Liverton and have a look at mine, i've got the 22mm and the EF mount.

Get the S if you can afford it, it fixes a lot of things that may otherwise annoy you quite a bit with the original (mostly the slow autofocus & sluggish overall performance). If you can't stretch that far then I'd probably opt for the RX100 instead, I say that having owned all 3 :) (still have the X100S, fantastic camera)

Original X100 was too flawed and annoying for me. I could have lived with the shoddy AF if the MF was usable.

RX100 is the perfect compact if you ask me. Have recommended to several friends, experienced togs and newbies alike and they all love it. The twilight mode party trick is pretty sensational.

Yep, the way I look at it is I swear far less at the 's' then I did at the original x100.
