DSLR's are great but a pain in the bum when out and about at work....... so looking at getting a pointy shooty thing to replace the aged 1.3mp Canon (Yes you read it right :lol:) Ixus to stick in the pocket.

Any views - considering the new Olympus or maybe a Canon (not the G12)

Hi,

I have still got a Canon IXUS 2.1MP and that still works.

If you are Interested have a Canon 980IS 14.7MP with a Viewfinder, can Shoot in Raw and in Mint Condition.

If you have £900 to spare

Seriously though I have a Canon 710IS that I got from the bay for £70 and have been delighted with the results

I had a Fuji which was fine but I got a Panasonic Lumix LX3 as I was frustrated with the lack of manual control after getting my DSLR. It's great but the limited zoom is the one downside.

Lumix and IXUS seem to be very popular and get good reviews.

My 4 year old is using my old IXUS V which is a mammoth 2.1MP
 
I had a Canon S90 - loved it then drowned it :(
Now have an S95 - love it and try to keep it dry.
 
If you want to stick it in a trousers pocket forget the g12. I'd even say you shouldn't even be thinking the likes of XZ1 or LX3/5. The S95 is probably more portable and as good of a small camera as you can get.

If you can sacrifice a bit of pocketability I doubt you can go wrong with an LX3/5, I have the LX3 and other than the limited zoom I seriously cannot fault it.

If you need any more control and a step up in quality how about a GF2 with a 20mm or an NEX3/5?
 
Another vote for the S95, amazing to have an f2 raw shooting camera that will fit in your pocket.
 
panasonic lx3. weapon of a compact. essentially a leica d-lux renamed .

Update - with help from the boss went for the Canon S95........ which she has now nicked:razz:
