Hello all,

I only joined this site today and firstly, I apologize if I am posting in the incorrect area.

I am desperate to take my photography further and would, one day, like to make a living from it. The trouble is I'd like to gain some kind of formal qualification first. There seem to be an awful lot of courses out there and I simply don't know which one to go for! I can't afford to spend hundreds of pounds on a course that is little more than a scam, hence I thought I'd seek advice first.
My main interests are portraiture and macro. I'd like to be able to photograph weddings (sorry if this is a cliche) but again, it's something that really interests me.
Whatever I eventually do, it will have to be an evening or distance/online course as I work full time and have a family which take up the vast majority of my spare time.

If possible then a course that incorporates Photoshop would also be great.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction!!

Many thanks for your time,

Steve.

in regards to photoshop course it is very easy to learn at home for free just type into google what you would like to do and im sure some1 somewhere has posted a tutorial on it well thats how i learn about photoshop in terms of photography courses im not too sure

had not thought of that - dur! glad I read here - thanks for the tip

Depends what qualification you want i guess!

I'm currently doing A level at an evening class. One night a week. I am doing it more out of interest than anything. This course also incorporates photoshop but as already stated you can learn that on youtube.

I also live in Hampshire. If you need anymore info PM and i will happily answer any questions you have about the course.

Photoshop-wise...just download it and play! Thats how most of us lot learn!

I'm hoping to start a BA in Photography from OCA: http://www.oca-uk.com/

It's distance learning so can be done while working. Not sure how good it is though, but you can get some insight from their forums. Also not sure how much Photoshop is covered.

Also try youtube.

everyone is different, I have learned long distance learning does not really work for me, and I get a lot more out of face to face tuition.

not the case for others clearly, but if you see a long distance course with a good rep, worth having a good think is you could actually be left in peace at home to do it! I find getting out for 2-3 hours a week on an eve is much better!
