A friend loves my camera (D5100) because of the flip out screen.

Before I suggest he gets one, is the D5200 or D5300 worth the extra £200/£300?

I like my D5100 but the extra focus points would be nice, so would the extra light sensitivity and the GPS, wifi, 3d??

Your thoughts please

I'd suggest your friend buy a D5100 or even D5000 and just use the extra cash for purchasing better lenses. The 'enhanced' features of the D5200 and D5300 are really just fluff that do very little, if anything at all, to improve photographic quality.

Some people just want a small DSLR with the 18-55 kit and that will last them for years, in this case the D5200/5300 will be the way to go.

If your friend wants to improve their skills and get the best they can out of their photography then get the D5100 and focus on lenses.

I am sure the D5000 is a good camera but IMHO it is old now and I won't even consider it.

Assuming you're sticking to UK stock, the D5200 is only about £70-80 more than the D5100 after the current Nikon cashback promotion so not a bad deal.
 
You sell the 5100 to your friend and you buy the new 5300 for yourself ;)

What's a second hand D5100 worth with a 55-200VR lens? >£300?? still a chunk for me to find and a feeling I've ripped a friend off

Used 5100 body about £225-250 and lens about £90-100
