Which diffusion material?

Yes
I have been building a DIY light tent but need to get some diffuser to cover the holes I cut in the sides. I was wondering what would be best? It would need to be heat resistant as I am just using a pair of halogen floods.

I heard mention of white ripstop nylon, found a supplier and its dirt cheap but there is about 3 different grades from very lightweight through to medium. Any idea which would be best?

If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful:)

Ripstop nylon is ideal, it needs to be as thick as possible.

You'll need to place the lights well away from it, it will definately melt if they get too close!

Cheers Garry. I was searching on other sites and a lot of folk say ripstop is the way to go.

Found a fabric shop that sells it but they have two weights, either 48 gram/sq.m or 60. So would the heavier one be best?

Also, they do a version which is treated with fire retardant, do you think that would be a good one or could the fire retarding treatment affect the properties of diffusion?

This is the one I mean here:

Thanks for the help:)

I used my Ebay light tent with a set of B&Q work lights and never had any problems, but if they do a fire retardant version that would be ideal.

Worst case scenario you'll need to open the aperture a bit more if the material is a bit thicker. Alternatively use thinner material and keep a fire extinguisher handy ;)

Personally I'd go for the heavier one, and I'd get the fire retardent version too - safety first!

But just because it can't catch fire (or can't catch fire easily) I would still keep a fair distance, it can still buckle and melt...
